Let's Talk Money - Scottish Welfare Fund 14.9.2023

Let’s Talk Money - Scottish Welfare Fund

Are you, like so many others, struggling to manage financially?

You are not alone, and we have a small, but committed team at the Council who are here to try and help with financial support and advice.

If you’re on a low income, or getting certain benefits, assistance could be available from the Scottish Welfare Fund.

Under the Fund, two types of grant are available. They can help people who are having difficulties because of an exceptional situation or in meeting one-off expenses:

Crisis Grants can provide people with a safety net in the event of a disaster or emergency such as a fire or flood, an unexpected crisis, or if money has been stolen. Crisis Grants are one-off payments and cannot support your income long term. Crisis Grant awards are made in the form of a direct payment into your bank account or cash.

Community Care Grants can help people leaving care to live on their own, or to stay in their own home. These grants can also help families facing exceptional pressures and needing essential household items, such as a cooker or washing machine. Community Care Grant awards are made in the form of goods, for example cookers, beds or washing machines.

If you’re facing household difficulties or a crisis you may be eligible for a grant or, if you work or volunteer in the social care sector, you may come into contact with an individual or family that could benefit from a Crisis Grant or Community Care Grant.
